Beginning of September already – how quickly the summer seems to have gone.

Subscriber Giveaway

Our September giveaway for subscribed members is the Pinwheels Table Runner fabric kit and instruction book by Karin Hellaby;

The table runner is quite large – 54″x14″ – and the lovely batik fabrics to make the top are pretty much as per the front cover picture but you will need to add backing and wadding to complete the project. At that size you might even like to use it as a bed topper.

Update 20th September:

Utility Quilting

Today we loaded up a lovely workshop with Carolyn Forster when she joined us for our 100th filming day !!! In this workshop she shares with you her love of big stitch quilting. She shows us lots of lovely quilts as well as covering the ‘how to’; big stitches (by hand) mean you can get the quilt finished.

and there is a lovely book by her of the same title Utility Quilting which is available through the shop.

Layer Quilt and Bind

(and if you need help with the layering, Valerie’s workshop Layer, Quilt and Bind – which was the last part of the Block of the Month programme, should help )

Other quilting ideas are covered by Valerie in her Quilting your Sampler Quilt video in which she shows you how different the quilt looks depending up on the quilting you choose (and since these are sampler quilts are very achievable on the domestic sewing machine.) and she talks about the equipment to use.

There is also no reason why you can’t combine machine and hand quilting in the same project- it will be fine and it is allowed!

And if you really want to be inspired by handwork, sit back and enjoy wandering round Jacquie Harvey ‘s exhibition in which she showcases years of her wonderful handiwork. (see above)

Personalize your project

If you like to personalize your projects then there are a couple of helpful hints today, again from Valerie, on using words, letters and numbers on your projects.
