Retreats

A busy start to October

We’ve just had 2 fabulous retreat weekends in Denham and Bristol.

Last weekend at the Aztec hotel  in Bristol was an excellent workshop with Hilary Beattie and you can read more about in our Blog Read Now+

The previous week, Valerie, Sarah Soward and Pauline Bolt kept everyone busy and merrily stitching with everything from Layer Cake to Bargello to working on their own special projects. One lady told us afterwards "I am thrilled with my quilt back but could not have tackled such a project without your support. It was a great weekend and really lovely to see everyone’s beautiful work.  I look forward to next year!"

If you’d like to join us at one our retreats next year with Angela Madden, Carolyn Forster, Gail Penberthy, Angela Daymond, Gail Lawther or Kathleen Laurel Sage, then do visit the site for more details and if you have any questions you can  contact us at retreat@justhands-on.tv  Learn More+

Craig Joubert

Meet Meet Craig Joubert- Marbelling 4 Fun

This week Valerie meets Craig Joubert, a man
with a great passion for marbling, and finds out how easy it is to create truly original designs on almost any surface. He’s extremely enthusiastic and believes it’s possible for anyone age 3+ to have a go. We have some great ‘how to’ workshops coming up later in the month – so keep watching  Watch Now+

Craig Joubert

You’ll also find 2 books by Craig’s wife, Christelle, in our Book Store. One is an introduction to Marbelling and the other is a book of crafting projects  – we think they would make great Christmas pressies for all ages in your family (and if you buy both at the same time, we can refund some of the p&p for you. Full details are on the product page.) Learn More+

Continuous Binding with Paula Doyle

Continuous binding with Paula Doyle

In today’s workshop Paula Doyle explains the importance of binding your quilt well (ie don’t let the binding let you down!).  She shows you several continuous binding techniques including bias binding, straight binding, double binding, mitred corners, and an introduction to her binding necklace. All will help you to complete your quilt with style and professionalism.  Watch Now+

We’ve also added some great equipment in the shop to help with your binding. Binding Clips by Sew Easy hold your quilt binding firmly in place while stitching and there’s a nifty gadget called The Binding Tool from TQM  that helps you to join your binding on the bias perfectly every time.

Sewing Hexagons

Not a paper in sight

Did you catch Carolyn Forster’s very clever Sewing Hexagons workshop last week without an English Paper Piece in sight. The hexagons can be pre-cut into an uncoordinated pile and then hand sewn together at random and while the finished result looks like the traditional circle from Grandmother’s Flower garden, the unit is actually pieced in rows. This makes it very portable and versatile for anyone who just enjoys sewing.  Watch Now+
