Geometry quilt with Valerie Nesbitt

This week, Valerie shares this  simple quilt that uses pre-cut 5″ squares or you could cut down a layer cake that has been begging to be used! . It is great for beginners as you don’t have to worry about the seam allowance. There are workshop notes available for paid subscribed viewers, keen to start straight away.   Watch Now+

Like so many quilts, the appeal comes from the fabric used. Here, Valerie used Moda’s Geometry  range, designed by Janet
Clare.  If you use a different range, we would love to see the result – so please do send us a picture to pictures@justhands-on.tv

If you would like to work with this range, we have  packs of 5″ squares (20 squares) available in our Shop  Buy Now+

Textured books with Kathleen Laurel-Sage

Kathleen loves to use organza and in this delightful workshop we get to use up lots of small scraps that might overwise get overlooked. Kathleen also shows us how to set up the machine; which foot is best; things to think about such as using up threads to add additional colour and how to use a textile soldering iron safely and to good effect. PLUS there are suggestions for even the offcuts from making your book – suggestions are card embellishments, bookmarks and hinges for your book. Nothing is wasted!  Watch Now+

Prairie Points add dimension and texture to your project and here Valerie shows you how to make a two colour version. You can use Prairie points around the edge of project to give it interest. Miniature Shadow Applique Quilt Kits with Julia Gahagan

The shadow applique technique works so very well with tiny pieces of fabric.  There is no need for you to sew round this little shapes. They are trapped beneath the net/organza layer, and the quilting is really simple and straightforward too.  You can do clever swirly free motion, or just straight line by hand or machine.  So very achievable for everyone, particularly beginners. Watch Now+
