With Halloween approaching and the children on half term, Kate Findlay shares this Halloween inspired goodie bag with you which is great for children to make too. Kate feels it is suitable for those 7 years and older (!); perfect for Halloween with the pumpkin design on the front but this could be adapted for any season/occasion. The stitching has been done with the machine but could just as easily be done by hand with a blanket or even a running stitch. The pumpkin template is available for Paid Subscribers Watch Now+
Halloween Ghost T Shirt with Kate Findlay
Kate also has a second Halloween workshop to make this simple painted T-shirt, which can be done with and/or for the children If using white paint on black you may find you need several layers to get a good coverage – so a little bit of patience maybe! You could also ring the changes by adding day-glow paint, or indeed 3D paint – the embellishment options are down to you! Again there are some free templates available to download in the workshop notes for paid subscribers. You could of course use these simple templates to create fast, fused applique shapes too. This month we have a fantastic fabric pack and pattern Wall Hanging set called Hexahedron. It’s designed by Helen Butcher of Little Patch Pockets and is part of Helen’s Illusion Series of 3D designs created exclusively for Oakshott Fabrics. As our Product of the Month it also comes with free shipping in the UK for the month of October 2021.
Oakshott fabrics are 100% mercerised shot cottons – each colourway combines a base colour warp with a complementary or contrasting weft thread. This produces the trademark ‘shot’ effect when colours appear to shimmer and
‘move’ depending on how the light falls. It lends extra depth and texture to your project.
The project is great for confident beginners / intermediates and measures 24″ x 24″ / 61 cm x 61 cm
The kit contains :
1 x Colourshott Inspirations Pack: 72 colours, cut 5″ x 2.5″
2 x Fat Quarters: Black and White
1 x Fat 8th: a selected Colourshott purple for binding

Beginner Patchwork Sampler quilt series with Sallieann Harrison – Block 5 Log Cabin
For the next block in our beginners series, Sallieann Harrison shows you this traditional block which is created by sewing a series of different coloured strips around a central square. Folk-lore has it this used to represent the fireplace of the log cabin, so would be sewn with red fabric, which then lit half the cabin (the light side) and threw the other half into shade (dark fabric). The colours used by Sallieann still reflect this concept. Watch Now+
The Oakshott Fat 8ths packs that Sallieann uses are available in the shop – Just pick your colourway from the selection list. Learn More+
