Out & About

Remembering WWI with the London QuiltersMembers of London Quilters put together a small exhibition of commemoration entitled Memories of WW1; many of the pieces have personal stories behind them and Linda Seward shares them with us.

Hand Stitching Workshops

Sashiko Stitch with The Stitch WitchWe have a new workshop today from The Stitch Witch in which she shares with us her love of the Japanese form of quilting, Sashiko, which is created with thicker thread (therefore a bigger needle) than European and American hand quilting;  quick and easy to do too. Lynette has also put together a couple of kits so that if you are inspired you can make a start straight away.

5_jh115-08-kantha-work-sm - Juliet Coffer - julietSimilar but different is the workshop from Angela Daymond on Kantha Stitching; again worked in thicker thread, bigger needle and again she has put together a couple of lovely kits to work from – a Heron and/or a Hare.

Hanging your Quilt

How to put a sleeve on your quilt by Chris PorterWhether on a wall at home or on display in a competition, this is a helpful workshop from Chris Porter, and she includes interesting information on how she makes and adds quilt labels. (of course every quilt should have one, and the book Quilt Labels for All Occasions 2 contains 65 so is an easy way of solving that problem!)

Local shows/events

As a personal plea, local shows can only exist if quilters and textile artists enter their quilts – if you have made and finished a quilt or project that fits the classification, then please consider putting it on display for others to admire and be inspired by – for details of many shows you can just go to our Events page (and if you are an organiser please send us details so that we can publicise it for you).
