Meet Jane Czaja

This week we meet a new Queen of Crochet, Jane Czaja. Valerie and Jane first met in one of Valerie’s quilting classes many years ago. But Jane’s passion, since a child, has always been crochet. Whilst it’s her hobby, she now teaches and works with Nicki Trench and Inside Crochet Magazine. In this video, Jane and Valerie chat about the upcoming workshops that Jane has for you  Watch Now+

Scrap 9 Patch quilt with Valerie Nesbitt

Did you see last week, how Valerie was inspired by a picture of a traditional scrap nine-patch quilt on the front of a calendar. She realised that she could turn those little 2″ x 5″  braids and scrappy bits into this traditional 9-patch block and quilt. In the workshop  she suggests strip piecing and then sub-cutting as this gives a more precise set of 3 squares, which in turn gives you perfect piecing. Watch Now+

How to Make a Secret Pillow with Valerie Nesbitt

In this workshop, today, Valerie turns her Beginners Sampler Quilt into a Secret Cushion or Quillow  It’s where the quilt hides inside your pillow to create the pillow pad or stuffing. First she makes the cushion from the scraps/left overs of the quilt and then she attaches it to the quilt back, where it will be hidden. The lovely part of this is that when the secret cushion quilt is in use, the cushion becomes a perfect spot to slip your feet into!  Watch Now+

BOOK OF THE MONTH:  Material Magic by Jennie Rayment

Jennie’s latest book, Material Magic, will provide hours of fun and inspiration for fabulous ingenious creations.

The book goes from Japanese Folded Patchwork to bowls, vases and re-usable Christmas Crackers with a spot of Interlocking Hexagons thrown in for good measure. Ponder over the pages and enjoy the creativity. Fold, twitch and tweak circles over a selection of geometric shapes for some fantastic effects. Just play … read the words and have a go. You will be amazed by
your own ingeniousness.

Its’ ideal for all ages and abilities. You can hand sew many of the designs although Jennie also encourages the use of a sewing machine. For accurate cutting of specific shapes and sizes, Jennie recommends a rotary cutter, cutting mat and also an acrylic ruler.

It’s 48 pages, A4. There are also full colour photographs of each stage plus samples of finished designs.

As it’s our Book of the Month it also comes with FREE P&P in the UK during July Buy Now+
