Events

This weekend many of our contributors are at Quilts UK which is being held at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern;  there is also a Chintz Applique class being held at the Welsh Quilt Centre in Lampter;  more details of these and other events can be found on our Events Page .

Helpful Colour Tip

4_jh109-03-use-of-selvedges - Valerie Nesbitt - valerie

Did you pick up on the idea of using the selvedges to help with your colour selection?   Well you can also, of course, use the selvedges in your work and you can find a piece about that in the Homespun Mag Jan 2014 issue, that we have just added to the shop.

Twiddling, Fiddling & Manipulating fabric

4_jh108-04-tucked-up-hairband - Valerie Nesbitt - valerie

Jennie is busy this weekend at her own Sewing Retreat but she has shared with us her idea for a tucked up band:  of course she is the mistress of twiddling, fiddling and manipulating and this lovely idea can be used for trimming and embellishing.

Stitch N Flip

4_jh078-06-silk-route-patterns - Valerie Nesbitt - valerie

This is a very acceptable form of patchwork, particularly good for use with scraps;  Sylvia Critcher is perhaps better known for her trapunto and hand work, but she designed this lovely quilt, entitled Dawn to Dusk  for The Silk Route and the pattern is available in the shop.

More Adventures in Leaders & Enders

If you don’t know about this little idea check out the video by clicking here: it’s a great way of using your threadsaver to create another scrap quilt without even trying!.

A Midsummer Mystery

4_jh110-01-mystery-quilt-promo - Valerie Nesbitt - valerie

Valerie has designed a small(ish) scrap quilt using 2 ½” strips either from your stash or that lovely jellyroll that you have been stroking!   You can learn a little more about it from our video:

Sat 21st June will be the day and we will be loading up the workshops hourly starting at 10am – so make a note in your diary – get the family organised to be elsewhere; coffee and sandwiches ready so that you can join us have a great (uninterrupted) sewing day.

Happy Sewing
