There is lots to tell you about this month and we start off with the videos that went live today: the second part of our wander round the Festival of Quilts 2011 where we not only enjoy some of the winning quilts

but also catch up with Dawn Cameron-Dick who gives us a great little workshop on reverse appliqué and then we meet Janet Clare who shows us how she uses her sewing machine to ‘scribble’ and create pictures. She also has a lovely little book called ‘Freya & Fred – a week full of quilts ‘ in which you are encouraged to create your own unique quilts using jointed templates.

Later in the month we visit the exhibition called ‘Roses from the Heart’ which is a unique memorial of stitched bonnets; created by Christini Henri this pays homage to 25,566 convict women and children who were transported to Australia from Britian and Ireland between 1788 and 1853.

Available for you to enjoy from today is the workshop by Anne Baxter which she called ‘Faded Flag Cushion’ – we thought you would enjoy using fabrics to create your own version and there are lots of examples for you to see (and in the show & tell) in a wide variety of colours and fabrics.

To help you enjoy the upcoming Jubilee and Olympics There are 4 bundles of 11 x fat 1/8th/s of a great range called ‘London’ designed by Makower (donated by Creative Quilting) and available in our prize draw

-If you are a subscribed member all you need to do is send us an email to justhandsontvcomp@gmail.com with the title “London” and you could be in with a chance – the draw will be made on 31st May.

Obviously if you can’t wait till then and need fabric NOW you can go to http://www.creativequilting.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d48.html

The last prize draw of the Gemini box of fabrics (including pattern) was won by Dorothy – lucky girl; we look forward to seeing a picture of the finished quilt – no pressure! Hundreds of you wanted to win that prize but with only one winner there are obviously many of you who are disappointed. As a very special offer Michael at Oakshott has allowed us to offer you the Gemini box and pattern at an extremely advantageous price of £99 plus shipping (by courier).

This is down from the rrp of £125; there is limited availability so first come, first served! (A note on the postage – if you order from North America or Canada we will refund you some of the courier charge – we don’t have enough options on Paypal!!!)

News in the pipeline is that we are VERY busy working in the background on a completely updated website: this will include a search facility as well as a shopping cart and the plan is that it will generally be very much easier for you to wander around; launch date still to be decided but we will keep you posted.

In the meantime lots of great videos for you to continue to watch this month: We have some ribbon embroidery coming with Tanya Haines and Sylvia Critcher is going to show us how to use more of our scrap stash (we saw lots of lovely quilts using this method in her recent Hope Quilters Exhibition) and Valerie shows you how to create a quilt using a chain-block as the joiner between other blocks and/or panels.

Jennie shows you how to expertly insert a zip into the back of your cushion (and coming up on video we also have how to create an envelope back to your cushion, which is an alternative to inserting a zip, as well an Oxford Flap).
