Meet Kate Findlay
A teacher and textile artist who has been inspired by things scientific and most recently by the Hadron Collider;
She is also playing with the use of fibre optics in her quiltwork and what a colourful surprise they are. (Later in the month we get to enjoy more quilts with Kate when she acts as hostess at the exhibition entitled ‘Water Water’ which we filmed in Henley.)
Tie Dyeing with Dee Paramour
This is the latest technique that she shares with us using the deColourant and deColourant Plus products;
These are very safe, non-toxic products that take the colour out of fabric without distressing either the fabric or the user! A great little workshop for children to enjoy (those too young maybe to remember tie dyeing from the hippy era!) Products and a helpful books are in the shop.
Monthly Inspiration
Is something we hope you get from the site as well are learning by watching; we are very excited that one of our films – Val’s 40minute scrap quilt using 2 ½” scrap strips from her stash – has clocked up over 200,000 views! If you missed it, here is the link:

From the Shop
The right-hand panel of goodies includes
Rusty the Felt Fox (approx 25cm high); ‘How Does Your Garden Grow?‘ from the Don’t Look Now range of patterns using fused applique; a book on The Art of Boutis – which is a French classic embroidery similar to Trapunto (and on which we have some lovely workshops with Sylvia Critcher)
And if you can’t see these then you should tap on ‘download entire message/email’ at the bottom of this email.
Book of the Month
‘Love to Sew Mug Rugs’ by Crista Rolf; if you haven’t come across these little projects before, they are quite delightful: not very big so quick to finish and useful too and this little book has 20 different ideas for you to try (including one with monkeys)
Happy Sewing
