Is it still too hot to sew?   But  even if you are on holiday maybe you can stretch  to just being inspired ,  in the shade with a glass of something nice (and don’t forget you can watch on  your Ipad ).

Textiles in Focus

There are five Fridays in this month  so we have  lots in store for you but  we start off by continuing to wander round the Textiles in Focus 2013 exhibition;    here we meet up with Lynda Monk who demonstrates for us how she uses Lutradur and puff  paint to create her lovely 3D sculptures;  and  Jean Wright also demonstrates  but this time it is her love goldwork and bringing the appeal of this traditional technique right up-to-date and incorporating it into her textile pictures (as well as making a stunning brooch);   we also enjoy more of the Fen Edge Textiles exhibition that was on display and meet several of the traders who were there.

Stitch N FLip with a difference

The workshop today is Jennie’s Squares on Squares block – which is a stitch ‘n slip technique but Jennie has revised it so that you don’t get lots of left-over bits (although those could be used, of course in a border).

You can also see one that Valerie made earlier  which is set more traditionally.

Attic Windows the easy way

Also last week Valerie introduced you to her method of creating the mitred corner needed for the Attic Windows block

– neat little use of the iron – and if you use the quick search you will also find Karen Hellaby’s version which is part of her Sew Simple range of books/techniques.

Use a Jelly Roll maybe

Coming next week will be a quick tip from Valerie to suggest upscaling your quilt – in which she shows you a 9 patch and Rail quilt made with 2” strips and again with 2 ½” strips – and what a difference that ½” makes.
