Here we are in February (after a 5 week January which did seem to drag on didn’t it; but maybe it’s just all this rain!)

Well we hope that you enjoy what we have in store for you:

4_hearts-and-flowersValentine Heart

With Valentine’s Day just round the corner how about taking a look at the lovely pattern from Daisy Chain – Hearts and Flowers. You’ll also find a video in our archives to help you as Lee Brown and Sue work together to show you how to create the double-hearts applique on the quilt.

Textile Inspiration

5_jh104-01-meet-karen-nicol

Today we meet Karen Nichol, who is a textile artist who is inspired to use everyday items to push the boundaries of embroidery; later in month we get to enjoy her group of monkeys (called a Singerie) which were a work in progress at the time and destined for a gallery showing.

(Note that we have a new quick search entitled Textile Art)

Workshops

4_jh103-08-hand-quilting

Also today we enjoy a workshop from Paula Doyle on handquilting.

This is very comprehensive and shows you how to mark your work, layer it up, plus, of course, the all important stitching, together with the equally important starting and finishing!

4_jh107-02-beaded-buttonsAlso on the workshop front we had Fran Rose help us make some Beaded Brooches (with a simple workshop/pattern that is an instant download for those with everything at hand and who feel inspired).

Fran will be at the Textiles in Focus exhibition/show later this month at Cottenham in Cambs.

If you like handwork, Carolyn Forster showed us how to create hexagons with traditional paper piecing;  this was featured earlier in January and you can see the list of films from the last month by scrolling down to the bottom of the page.
