Out and about
Tracy Chevalier, who is a well known author, now adds quilting to her skills. We caught up with her earlier in the year at an event held at Lady Sew & Sew’s in Henley, but The Sleep Quilt wasn’t made by her; it was commissioned by her and made by prisoners who are part of the Fine Cell programme that uses needlework as a rehabilitation skill. Tracy shares with us some of the stories behind the blocks. Watch Now+
Workshops
Wonky with Jennie – we know she twiddles and fiddles but here is a super idea to use up your fabric, using a paper pattern; we get tips from Jennie not only on how to make the blocks but also on how to extend the life of your pattern so that you can make LOTS of quilts! (and she puts forward a simple but appealing Christmas idea – it’s never too early ) Watch Now+
Gail Penberthy talks to us about her passion for making these very tactile raggy-edge quilts which are easier than they might appear; she uses fleece and adds the applique and embellishments to each of the squares separately, so they become very portable – particularly if you like hand sewing – and then there is no wadding! Watch Now+
She has designed a wide variety of patterns using this technique – from farmyard to flower garden and then of course Christmas – so there is sure to be one in our Shop that appeals Take a look +
Jennie’s Stripey Stripy Story Quilt continues next week – how are you getting on? Don’t forget that we have bundles of the fabric she used which are really lovely and bright – dots and stripes –at a great price – and many of the rows would make stunning borders for other quilts , so if you haven’t dropped in on the series, take a moment to check it out.
