What’s new to see on the first Friday in February? Well the final part of our wander round the amazing exhibition of quilts (and other things) made by Hope Quilters – students of Sylvia Critcher;
We get to be inspired by more clever use of fabric; use of panels (that we often get tempted into buying at shows!) and several pretty star tablerunners – which were the subject of a workshop that is still on the site for you to enjoy:
You also get to see a lovely quilt using the 54/40 design which was also the subject of a workshop with Jennie so we have re-activated that from our archives:
In complete contrast Lynette Harris , the Stitch Witch , shows us how we can create a lovely design from a doodle and turn it into Celtic work using simple iron-on bias (which now comes in a selection of variegated colours which are extremely tempting). Lynette loves to think up ways of involving children and this is one they can do too.
A little bit of fun on the back of that Lynette has designed a Celtic Clock and you can purchase the kit for this (pattern, template and clock mechanism) from the shopping pages.
Other more recent uploads that you might have missed are Block 8 of Your First Sampler Quilt – which was Pinwheels – and some simple wavy quilting using the walking foot of the sewing machine – if you don’t use this or know what it’s for then this is definitely one to watch!
There is also a workshop to help you create a 3D Tumbling Blocks quilt with simple hand piecing (NOT over papers); our thanks to Jo for the display quilt (and while Valerie obviously didn’t make the display model she says she could have!!!).
Did you get a chance to watch and enjoy the Painting Landscapes with Valentina? This is a clever little workshop for which Valentina has gone to the trouble of creating a kit; the kit contains the mount, felt and Bondaweb (nothing else will do!) so that you can make a start straight away.

You’ll also see in the Blog that Valerie had a happy time shopping at Ardingly and some lovely patterns will be coming to the website:
Two that have a heart theme (well February does have Valentine’s day in it doesn’t it!) are
Home is Where the Heart is – a delightful little embroidered piece to decorate your home- designed by Brenda Walker
And the other a more practical duo of needlecase,and scissor holder designed by Mandy Shaw
both have used linen/osnaburg style textured fabric to great effect.
Also at Ardingly Valerie bumped into Gail (and Chris) Lawther who were launching Gail’s brand new pattern set – Enchanted Ocean; there are 6 wonderful patterns in this set, all with Gail’s trademark stained glass style and the full set can be purchased from us (p&p is included for the UK).
Later in the month Valerie will be up at the Textiles in Focus event in Cottenham village (Cottenham Village College, High Street, Cottenham, Cambridgeshire, CB24 8UA 15-17 Feb – more details on the events page) together with Matt & Dave and the cameras – so hope to see you there.
Happy sewing
Valerie & Jennie
