We have started the month off with a wander round the Hope Quilters’ Exhibition that was held in Kent earlier in the year; this was a fantastic exhibition organised by Sylvia Critcher to showcase the work created (and finished!) by her students over the previous 3 years – and boy is there a lot of it! (so this is just part 1!).
As Christmas is just around the corner we thought you might like a couple of really quick ideas to help with making some wonderful woven cards (but these will be good for other occasions too) from The Stitch Witch; they are really quick to make so there is still time! And a great one again for the children to do.
And next week there is a really quick last minute wall hanging decoration to make from Valerie.
Other inspiration this month comes in the form of showing you some work using patchwork as a background and Valerie also shares with you how to work a Twisted Setting for your blocks; this is a great idea for making the blocks all a uniform size too which can be useful if you are making a group quilt.
We also have a workshop coming up showing you a modern and quick way of creating the Split 9-patch block – a very useful scrap quilt design or one that can be created using jelly rolls (2 ½” strips).
We continue with the series Your First Sampler Quilt with Blocks 5 (Prairie Queen and Jacobs Ladder) and Block 6 which is the Ohio Star block – so moving on to quarter square triangles.
And we have our promotional video for next year’s Block of the Month series. Designed and created by Jennie it is called ‘Superstar’;
As you can see this is a medallion quilt and contains some wonderful techniques such as Seminole Patchwork and Delectable Mountains – so definitely one to look out for and we will be giving you all the fabric requirements too so that you can start shopping!
Talking about shopping there is still time to order gifts from the shop area; we have loaded up a couple of new projects from Sylvia Critcher – the Trio Cushion and the Thistle – how pretty are these using coloured threads;
and some Celtic Bell Push designs from The Stitch Witch;
several quick and easy tree patterns from Sally Ablett (which are downloadable so you can get sewing straight away) – Valerie’s favourite is the Boughs of Folly
– and there are more ideas from Magic embroidery which would also make great gifts.
Don’t forget to use the quick links to help in the search – as well as the search facility (and we have sorted out the Google thumbnails now too!)
And what about all those quilts that are being given as gifts: they should all have a label(!) – so a reminder of this really great little book (also a great item to receive as a gift!)
And for those little gifts that need wrapping, what about making the little goodie box from Lynette?
An idea for those who like to be organised (or wish they were more so) what about the Swatch Buddies to help colour match when out shopping?
If you are looking for a new twist on the table what about making your own crackers? there is a great pattern from The Stitch Witch
and you could then of course put your own lovely presents inside – there would be plenty of room for such things as a textile brooch, a watch and of course sparkly diamonds (but you might have to drop hints about those!!)
OR how about ordering the gift pack? – even if you are currently a subscribed member you can take advantage of this wonderful offer and we will work the magic on your membership.

You can find out about our Book Of the Month which comes with its video – Paula Doyle demonstrates her Mini Mosaics technique – on the Home Page
30 different designs and 14 different projects are in the book and it is p&p free in the UK for the month of December;
There are lots of additional patterns available for this very clever technique which allows you to sew traditional block patterns in a smaller scale (use the quick link for Miniatures).
AND for all you autograph hunters if you are in the vicinity of Creative Quilting (Bridge road, Hampton Court, Surrey) between 2-4pm on Wed Dec 12th Paula will be there signing her books (and patterns too I’m sure!)
The competition to win the Simplicity Deluxe Felting Machine runs until the end of the month; the Competition video can be found on the competition page as well as in the recent videos on the Home Page; entry is open to all who are registered members on the site and you can enter either by sending the answers to the email competition address or by filling in the form and sending it to us by post (but with the rush of Christmas mail don’t leave it too late).
And finally on the admin side, once you have activated your account, you can get rid of the white message from the front of the Home Page- tick the box that hides it forever!
We do hope you are all enjoying the new website experience.
Happy Sewing
Valerie & Jennie
