One of my ladies is piecing the top of a 9 block sample quilt..and because she has made her sashing a little wider..when she is putting her border on the it is shorter than the full width of the fabric by a few inches...she will obviously have to add a little but where would you suggest she puts this add on please?
What do you do if the quilt becomes too big to manage? Well quilt as you go is an option - and both Valerie and Carolyn Forster have methods you might like to try: Valerie uses the machine and Carolyn works by hand: Here is the comment from Heather - I have also just re-watched your video on how to join a quilt as you go project using the machine instead of hand sewing.
Well the threads can be knotted and then hidden in the wadding. I was taking both threads to the back, tying them off and then weaving in the ends which seemed to take longer than the actual quilting!
After watching Jenny's workshop...had fun making this for my daughter Sara..the sashing has tiny mice on it to go with the cat's theme..Sara lives in a barn conversion! ..Lyn love it Lyn - and hopefully there are only mice on the quilt!
filming days that is ! How great is that and since we film more than one workshop/event each day it means there are SEVERAL HUNDRED videos for you to enjoy! Had another great day yesterday filming in the studio where we were joined by Carolyn Forster; she showed us how she marks her quilts ready for Big Stitch and Utility Quilting as well as Amish Waves and she showed us lots of wonderful examples too plus two delightful little workshops from her Sew Jelly Rolls Quilts and Gifts book: all to come so keep watching.

This lovely quilt was made with a machine quilt-as-you- technique in vertical strips which were then sashed and Tina made the clever decision to make the sashing scrappy; This is a technique we will be sharing with you but what a great quilt this turned out to be Tina.
Pat decided to make her son a very large quilt but wanted something quick - so took inspiration from the stripey quick quilt workshop; she also added sashing to make the quilt even bigger!
We start the month off with yet more inspiration from the Hope Quilters’Exhibition ; this is the final part of our wander round their exhibition with Sylvia Critcher acting as guide and hostess. We enjoy work that is complicated such as Baltimore just as much as the use of simple panels that we can all be tempted into purchasing when at a show! Sylvia's group also have a wide variety of talents making small items - just you see.
A group of 8 of us had a wonderful time at the Ramada Inn Hotel on the Hogs Back; naturally we spent most of our time sewing so didn't really take advantage of the swimming pool/spa complex but we really enjoyed the food and the hospitality - which was excellent. What did we get up to? Well here is one that Margaret finished: and I managed to make a start using the new Sew Simple Pinwheels from Karin Hellaby (we are going to do this to camera - so keep watching!); it was fun and quick - just what I like as you know!
Lyn seems to be such a busy grandma. She says: Am just coming to the end of my Granddaughter's memory quilt...my daughter Ali couldn't bear to part with Izzy's old baby clothes so asked if I could do something to 'keep': all the sashings are from her dresses and I used the bibs and babygrows for the pictures. also stitched in the age labels on the tangled star pillow front....Lyn

But more than that. We are slowly working together to put together a set of 30 vintage quilt squares from 1933 found in a small town in Texas.
Each square has a hand embroidered signature and we are going to be creating a quilt out of the squares using techniques like hand stitching, sashing and embroidery.

Last Christmas I was asked if I would like to make a chuppa for the wedding of my nephew to his Jewish Rabbi bride. Being Christian I had no idea what a chuppa was let alone know where to start. Some research was obviously needed so onto the internet for some ideas. The bride wanted a religious theme and chose the seven fruits (or species) of Israel which are wheat, barley, olives, dates, pomegranates, figs,and grapes The picture taken on the floor shows six of the theme blocks.
