We reach 100 (with some help from Carolyn Forster)

filming days that is ! How great is that and since we film more than one workshop/event each day it means there are SEVERAL HUNDRED videos for you to enjoy! Had another great day yesterday filming in the studio where we were joined by Carolyn Forster;     she showed us how she marks her quilts ready for Big Stitch and Utility Quilting as well as Amish Waves and she showed us lots of wonderful examples too plus two delightful little workshops from her Sew Jelly Rolls Quilts and Gifts book:   all to come so keep watching.

when do you add the wadding?

Question: Hi I'm a new quilter making 12" squares.  At which point do I add batting?  Is it with the individual square or when it's all joined together ? Answer: There are two ways of doing a quilt - by squares - Quilt as you Go (see Carolyn Forster) or making the whole quilt top - which is my preferred method - see Layer Quilt and Bind in the Block of the Month series First Sampler Quilt

Biscornu cushion

Inspired by the pincushion video from Carolyn Forster here is one that Joy made: I just had to share the biscornu pillow I made following the video that was made for the pincushion. I just enlarged it and again made it match the quilt and other pillow I made.  This is the result and I am really please with the way  it turned out.  I just love your video's, they are so helpful for decorating my house and for making quilts. Sincerely Grateful, Joy C Click here to enjoy the video:

Does the size of the stitch matter for hand quilting?

No it's the even-ness that  is important and makes it look nice;   want to know more then you should give a few minutes to watching the workshop given by Paula Doyle for heirloom quilting: click here: For larger stitches, and utility quilting then Carolyn Forster has given us a couple of workshops:  Amish Waves and Big Stitch UtilityQuilting.

Quilt as you Go option

What do you do if the quilt becomes too big to manage? Well quilt as you go is an option - and both Valerie and Carolyn Forster have methods you might like to try:   Valerie uses the machine and Carolyn works by hand: Here is the comment from Heather - I have also just re-watched your video on how to join a quilt as you go project using the machine instead of hand sewing.

A few nice comments from you

Hi everybody really a good website will watch this space more often Jill Sent from my iPad (Oct 2013)   Just to say that I think Carolyn Forster is a very good demonstrator.  She speaks clearly and without a dull monotonous voice which some of your speakers unfortunately have! Her projects are also fairly easy to follow. Secondly, I really enjoyed Kaffe`s exhibition of his quilts in Wales.  It was very interesting listening to Jen Jones talk about his work.  Pity it is so far away to visit!

Quilting away from home

Pattern from Carolyn Forster Surrounded by good friends at a great hotel (so food and drink appear at regular intervals) and all we have to do is sew - what bliss. Such a great idea and here is what I managed to achieve so far (Kaleidoscope Hexagon pattern by Carolyn Forster); am also working on making an alternative version of our Block of the Month Rosebud Fayre quilt – Jennie and I made so many samples for the camera that I couldn’t allow them to go to waste – picture will have to follow as camera now has flat battery (forgot the charger!);   Dunford House Quilt Retreat Can’t recommend a getaway highly enough – why not think about joining us all at Midhurst in July; here is the link for more details https://www.justhands-on.tv/small-ads/54/scrap-happy-quilts--pieceful-projects/ (and if you just want to sit in a corner and sew our own thing let us know – you would be VERY welcome too)
