Kate Barlow guides you through a blackwork stitch which is perfect for beginners and maybe those who love cross-stitch.
Counted embroidery is a great way for lovers of cross-stitch to move into embroidery; Kate talks us through how to create one of the stitches she particularly liked from patterns used in Blackwork (which doesn’t always have to be sewn in black).
Kate suggests using a 28 count fabric, as this is easy to see and count. A higher number means the pattern would be smaller, and a higher count number means the pattern would be bigger.
Kate talks you through how to start your work including why it is best to work with a hoop; she has an amazing tip on what to do with the starting knot; She also talks you through the stranded threads she likes to use, which on this occasion includes one that is sparkly and suggests you might like to keep an eye on the tension between the two very different threads.
Kate also has a lovely rainbow kit available in our Shop. Click here for “The Rainbow” embroidery kit designed by Kate Barlow
