Lorna Bateman guides you through how to work this effective stitch which can also be referred to as ‘tufting’ and which she loves to use in her embroidery work to create a soft 3D look.
Lorna’s book, Embroidered Country Garden, is available through the shop. It has many wonderful ideas and patterns to inspire you to create beautiful hand-stitched floral designs inspired by nature.
This turkey work stitch, or tufting, is used to create a delightful soft 3D effect. You can then use this stitch to create the flowers on thistles or the centre of the clematis flower, the body of a bumblebee maybe, or even a soft body for a caterpillar.
Lorna likes to use stranded threads, rather than perle, as she feels these give a better finished result. And check out her suggestions for the travel toothbrush and sellotape!
