Information about workshops, which were published in September.

Skill Level

Description

We started the month with a really fascinating visit to The Jane Austen House museum in the south of England. This video is available on our website by clicking here. There we learnt that one of the world’s most beloved authors was also a seamstress of considerable ability and skill. Also she was using English Paper Piecing and fussy cutting to created a coverlet without wadding.

That month we had a Sampler Quilt series which is perfect for all those who are new to patchwork, as well as those with some sewing skills. More information about this quilt you can find by clicking here. The basic quilt had 9 blocks, but there were more alternatives as the month’s progress to make 15 blocks, and at the end we covered borders, layering, quilting and binding. We started with Valerie helping you select the fabrics, just click here. Then later in the month we moved on to the first block, Rail Fence, which covered rotary cutting and seam allowance. You can find this video on our website too, just click here.

In our throwback Thursday feature, Ruth Issett showed us how to use Markal Paint Sticks. It was a simple way of adding colour to your quilting. We recorded a demo at our visit to the Festival of Quilts a few years ago. You can find this video by clicking here.

September also brought us a very comprehensive sock workshop from our expert knitter Rosie Woodland. She explained the whole process, in perfect detail, from top to toe so to speak. The pattern comes in baby size too. This workshop you can find on our website too, just click here.

And from our scrap queen, Valerie, we had a really interesting workshop on how to make chenille fabric. It is a great way of using up fabric that you don’t love as much as you think you should. To find this video just click here.

Jennie Rayment is on her usual effervescent form as she explained how to make a Maltese Cross and we mean sewing not arguing. This video is available on our website by clicking here.

And finally that month, Paula Doyle gave us a very useful tip on how to create the perfect mitred corner. It’s so easy when you know how! This tip you can find by clicking here.
