This 9-block sampler quilt is an excellent project for the complete beginner and those with some sewing skills.
The Sampler Quilt series
In this series we plan to guide you through from start to finish on making a Sampler Quilt; this consists of a series of blocks (squares) that build up your skill base from the first block through to the final quilting and binding. It is created using the modern rotary cutting and machine piecing skills but workshop notes will be given for handpiecing (no templates involved though)
About the quilt
The sampler quilt on display has 9 blocks, but more options are going to be given at each stage so that you can make more different blocks should you with to make this a single quilt (for which you will need 15 blocks) or for those with some sewing/patchwork skills to offer more of a challenge.
Eight of the blocks are based on the basic 9-patch grid with the centre block being created out of four Log Cabin blocks.
Programme 1 – Choosing the fabric
We start the series with help on choosing the fabrics – and we thank Makower for their donation from their lovely Botanical Range and as you will hear – difficult to know which NOT to include!
After making the blocks the series will continue with help on the sashing, cornerstones, borders, layering, quilting and binding.
Obviously many of the skills learned in this series are applicable to other quilts (with lots of ideas too already on the site) and again we will be showing you examples.
Free to subscribers
The series is FREE to subscribed members you can enjoy working on it at any time of the day or night that suits you – no dressing up required!. Click here to find out about subscribing.
