Mystery Quilt still a hit

A quick note to say how much I enjoyed the Midsummer Mystery Quilt ... and although it's taken me a little while to finish it, here is a picture of the end result.  I am thrilled with it.  I'm going to do another one to fit my double bed because I like it so much. This is still available for you to work on - you just need to get a large bundle of 2 1/2" strips, and/or a jelly roll handy and you are ready to start.

Chris Porter and Mary Gamester join Valerie in the studio.

We had a great day as always and some great workshops were filmed;  Chris shared with us her love of Flying Geese and Dresden Plates, for which she has designed her own templates, as well as showing us how to put a sleeve on the back of a quilt, which she personalises with text and lovely pics too. Valerie gets ready to sew some Yo-Yo's   and Mary reminded us how great she is at transfer printing with woven strips, printing blocks and lace (all of which are in her book - Transfer Painting)   so keep watching!

Perfect Mitred Border Corners

I have just followed Valerie's instructions for my first mitred corner borders.  Wow, how easy is that!!  Big thank you.  My engineer husband has been saying for some time now that mitred corners would look so much better than straight stitching on borders, and he is right.  They aren't perfect, yet, but more practice will do the trick.

Kind regards, Nicola If you  too want to  follow Valerie - just click here:

Hexagons, the Magna Carta and The Stitch Witch

what brings them all together?  well a filming day with Justhands-on.tv of course. We were joined at the Legacy Hotel Hogs Back by Nancy from Lina Patchwork;  Nancy is passionate about English Paper Piecing and she cuts out thousands of accurate paper pieces for us to purchase and use!  She did a series of very comprehensive workshops for us - so keep an eye out for those.

Happy New Year

My wish for 2015 is that all our viewers remain happy and healthy and have lots of time to sit back and enjoy our workshops and videos. Pause for that coffee or glass of wine and be inspired;  we have lots of new contributors organised to be filmed  - so here's to a great sewing year ahead for all of us.

Out & About on the Site

Today we join the London Quilters at the opening ceremony of their biennial exhibition called ‘Coming Home’;  the exhibition runs through until 4th January at the Swiss Cottage Library in London NW3.   You will see that Tracy Chevalier (author and quilter) was there to do the official speech and we were excited to be able to interview her about her own very first quilt – which is also on display at the exhibition.

Filming date with Kate Crossley

Spent a really lovely day yesterday with Matt & Dave at Kate's house filming some of the great textile work that she creates;  We also got to take a long good look at the wonderful Grandfather Clock she made and entered into the Quilt Creations section of Festival of Quilts 2014     (thanks to Robert Crossley for the picture) - for which she won the 1st prize - which you will see was/is well deserved.

Retreat in Bridlington

I mentioned on facebook that I was off to Bridlington on Sunday 26th Oct having been invited by Fiona Garth to head up a 3 day patchwork retreat at the Royal Hotel;  250 miles each way but what a great time I had and my lovely room had a sea view! 3 different workshops - Thangles; Take 9 and Crazy and while some of the students were brave enough to stick with me all three days ( - leap into the unknown as we hadn't met before!) others changed places for each of the days.
