Val: We have a truely lovely day on Friday filming; we had stayed overnight at a small delightful hotel Hilltop Hotel close to Brands Hatch racecourse https://www.hilltophotel.co.uk/aboutus.htm and then we were up bright and early to do some filming. We spent the day with Sylvia Critcher, Hilary from The Silk Route, Kim Shaw, Carolyn Forster, Sue from The Daisy Chain and Lee Brown so we have lots of great workshops for you to enjoy.
Val; So pleased that so many of you have enjoyed the Faded Flag Cushion workshop video with Anne - it does work so very well with all sorts of colours - and here we have the latest version from Lyn Butler (for her friend in Cornwall)
As mentioned in the newsletter the boys from Bizview.tv (Matt Bigwood and Dave Harries) and I (plus hubby Stuart) popped down to East Sussex to film Mandy Shaw’s exhibition called ‘Quilts on the Farm’ where the work of her students was on display. The weather was glorious and the exhibition superb and we captured it all –including the bluebell woods and the Alpacas.

Val: On Monday 11th Justhands-on.tv together with Creative Quilting hosted a sewing and cardmaking workshop day to raise funds and awareness for Momentum. Momentum is a Kingston-upon-Thames based charity which supports children and their families who are undergoing cancer and other lifelimiting conditions. Janome were kind enough to sponsor the sewing machines and we used the new little CXL301 which was a delight.

Some tips from Jean Stewart who just loves this sort of work: The doormat she is holding has been in use for over 20 years and was made when she first arrived in the Highlands with tartan offcuts from Lochcarron Weavers. Below is a fleece rug that is still a work-in-progress; Jean finds that if she makes a diagonal cut the fabric pulls through more easily and if she raises a crease then she is able to do a row quicker; but remember to pull it flat before raising the next one!
Hi, Just wanted to say a huge thank you for this website. A Godsend to someone like me who is unable to go to workshops now and misses them very much. I especially liked the video about the needles and threads. Most welcome information, but I am working my way through them all and they have given me new incentive to start sewing again.
I thought you might like to see the Scottie Dog Handbag I made for my niece using the pattern from Mandy Shaw. I also used the very small Scottie dog to decorate a head band. The final set of photos are of the Christmas banner I made after being inspired by Mandy Shaw's Christmas decorations. Regards Sandra Parker

Last Christmas I was asked if I would like to make a chuppa for the wedding of my nephew to his Jewish Rabbi bride. Being Christian I had no idea what a chuppa was let alone know where to start. Some research was obviously needed so onto the internet for some ideas. The bride wanted a religious theme and chose the seven fruits (or species) of Israel which are wheat, barley, olives, dates, pomegranates, figs, and grapes The picture taken on the floor shows six of the theme blocks.
This event is being held 25/26/27 February at Cottenham Village College. It includes 3 days of workshops, there will be a lecture by Dawn Thorn - Transparency and Dimension - and the two exhibition halls will be showcasing the textile art of 'The O2 Textile Group' and 'Fibrefusion'. There will also be traders and demonstrators. This event has now been running for 10 years and this year Jennie and I will be there so pop along and say hello; Tickets available only on the door; there is free parking and access for the disabled. www.textilesinfocus.com and this year's chosen charity is the Alzheimer's Research Trust.
Thought you might like to see my waistcoat which I have made using your books – it’s my first one and it took me ages to get going on it but when I actually started I really enjoyed it – I have made a few blunders but have learnt a lot and know what not to do next time!!! Hope you are well and I’m looking forward to your new book coming out.
