We were joined by thirteen very excited ladies for our first weekend at the Denham Grove, after the recent lifting of restrictions. Some also couldn’t wait until Saturday morning and stayed on the Friday. This helped them to relax and get ready to start Saturday morning without an early morning drive.

As our first weekend of the year, Valerie Nesbitt also joined the weekend as a tutor. She gave advice and assistance to a small class of ladies wanting to finish UFO’s or start a new project uninterrupted the whole weekend. Quilt tops were finished, some were layered, some quilted and some almost finished. The ladies were very happy with their results by the Sunday afternoon.

Kate Findlay is an amazing textile designer. She was teaching Wild Gardens to our other students.. Everybody started with a blank canvas. They interpreted their own wild gardens using fabrics, fabric scraps, applique, machine embroidery and everything in between. One lady even created her garden as the seabed. The results were stunning.

All in all, it is so nice to see everyone smiling and laughing the whole weekend as new friendships were formed. Everyone was very happy to be away with like-minded people in a relaxed environment with some social restrictions lifted.

What’s coming up

Our next weekend is at the Hogs Back, Farnham on 12-13 June with Anja Townrow. Anja explores new threads and stitches for machine embroidery, and what elements will work for your machine. She will also show you how to achieve perfect binding every time!

There are just a few places still available for the ever-popular Janet Clare with us at the Denham Grove on 24-25 July Do come and join us if you fancy a weekend of quilting.

In addition, on all our weekends, if you don’t fancy booking a class you are always welcome to join us in the sewing corner as a day or residential student. This is subject to availability. You can finish your UFO’s or even start a new project without interruptions.
