My First Quilt by Lyn Waudby

My first quilt/wall hanging by Lyn Waudby My son David was getting married, and I decided to make something special to commemorate the wedding. The wedding was to take place in Disney World Florida followed by a celebration meal and last but not least watching the Magic Kingdom firework display lighting up The Castle. As this is Kerry's favourite Disney location I thought this might be a good place to start.

Quilts for the Alzheimer charity by Ann Hill

Raising awareness of this dreadful affliction that affects not only the patient but also their families Ann Hill has put together a display at the Hampden Park Stadium, Glasgow; there are 65 quilts in total and all the quilts have a story inspired by the stories of the families for whom the quilt was made and the exhibition runs until August 2011.

Quilt for Mrs Brodie

Children at Kingswood Primary School in Gloucestershire won the Village Fabrics Award for Under-16 Group Entry at the Quilts UK show in Malvern during May with a quilt made for their former headteacher. Mrs Carol Brodie retired from her role as headteacher in December after 26 years at the school, but the gift of the quilt made by the children came as a complete surprise to her.

Our visit to Mandy Shaw

As mentioned in the newsletter the boys from Bizview.tv (Matt Bigwood and Dave Harries) and I (plus hubby Stuart) popped down to East Sussex to film Mandy Shaw’s exhibition called ‘Quilts on the Farm’ where the work of her students was on display. The weather was glorious and the exhibition superb and we captured it all –including the bluebell woods and the Alpacas.

Charity event to raise money for Momentum

Val: On Monday 11th Justhands-on.tv together with Creative Quilting hosted a sewing and cardmaking workshop day to raise funds and awareness for Momentum. Momentum is a Kingston-upon-Thames based charity which supports children and their families who are undergoing cancer and other lifelimiting conditions. Janome were kind enough to sponsor the sewing machines and we used the new little CXL301 which was a delight.

Old Rag Rugs:

Some tips from Jean Stewart who just loves this sort of work: The doormat she is holding has been in use for over 20 years and was made when she first arrived in the Highlands with tartan offcuts from Lochcarron Weavers. Below is a fleece rug that is still a work-in-progress; Jean finds that if she makes a diagonal cut the fabric pulls through more easily and if she raises a crease then she is able to do a row quicker;  but remember to pull it flat before raising the next one!
