Val: On Monday 11th Justhands-on.tv together with Creative Quilting hosted a sewing and cardmaking workshop day to raise funds and awareness for Momentum. Momentum is a Kingston-upon-Thames based charity which supports children and their families who are undergoing cancer and other lifelimiting conditions. Janome were kind enough to sponsor the sewing machines and we used the new little CXL301 which was a delight. The fabrics were donated by quilters, by Marie Chantal (a London based fashion house) and by Makower and Anbo (both UK fabric distributors)with wadding coming from EQS (a UK wholesaler) and the children had great fun using them to make cushions and bags. Avid quilters came along and chose fabrics for which they gave a donations and others chose fabrics to make into quilts which will in turn be offered to Momentum. The quilts are first offered to the children and families for ‘adoption’ and any that are left over are then sold or raffled to raise funds. There was a pile of quilts ready for collection on the day and obviously more will now arrive over the next few months.

The money raised on the day so far is counted at £400 but as there were still cakes to sell I understand that the total is still rising – so many thanks to all who made the day such a success (and I gather the children had a good time too!)
