Description
Helen Howes has designed this lovely modern quilt to be made with simple improvised blocks and the pattern makes a generous lap quilt.
In 2016 Helen was asked to make a quilt with a series of Improv blocks to make a sampler quilt for The Quilter magazine. Improv blocks are particularly useful as they get trimmed to exact sizes, so perfect for both total beginners and groups.
This pattern is an expansion on those ideas, and was prepared to accompany the 2019 Quiltfest Exhibit of the resulting delicious and most-varied quilts. This version uses an Oakshott Fabrics Aruba pack of fat eighths plus about 2 metres of white. Helen has also made this quilt in many other fabrics and they all look just as lovely.
It’s very easy to make. Beginner-level machine sewing with an advanced result…
The pattern also has images of a few of the somewhat wildly different quilts made with the same ideas
Finished size is approx 48 inches square, but you can make any size and shape you like from these instructions…
