Lorna loves all forms of 3D embroidery which allows her to create texture and dimension in her work.
What Lorna says about herself:
I have lived in the UK for 10 years – originally from South Africa – and am now happily working as a teacher and designer. I love all forms of 3-dimensional, raised and textured embroidery and try to encompass as many of them in my designs as possible!
I currently run regular classes on Monday mornings, Tuesday mornings and Wednesday evenings. The morning classes run on alternate Mondays and Tuesdays from 9.30 – 12.30, so that students attend a class twice a month. The Wednesday evening class runs once a month from 7-10 pm. Students tend to work on a piece of their own choice or to work on any of my workshop ideas.
I will be conducting a crazy patchwork embroidery workshop in October at Highgate House near Northampton, which I am very excited about and really looking forward to! The surroundings are simply beautiful and the scrumptious food is mouth watering and in plentiful supply.
Great Escapes workshops are organised by Jane Dickinson, who has been organising embroidery getaway weekends for a good number of years. Workshops are held over 3 days from Friday afternoon through to Sunday afternoon, with specialist teachers by invitation. They are held in beautiful surroundings such as Highgate House in Northamptonshire, Barnett Hill near Guildford in Surrey, Sarum College, Salisbury in Wiltshire and Farncombe Estate, Broadway in the Cotswolds, etc.
