Prism Textiles part 2

Each year, Prism Textiles hosts an annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries in Pall Mall London. This year, we went along to see it to highlight the diversity of textile practice and challenge the notion that the textile is simply decorative. In addition to this, the group aims to present to the public work of the highest quality.

The group’s membership is worldwide and is currently 74 strong and no longer affiliated. Moreover, membership applications are now invited annually, with the closing date of mid-July. Above all, you can find more on their website at www.prismtextiles.co.uk.

Sheila Cahn

Sheila’s work celebrates the relativity of color and explores her emotional responses to the magical qualities of ever-changing light on land and seascapes.

Maria-Teresa Fernandes

Time, place, ad memory are an essential part of life and work. The works in this exhibition are rich in layers and also in texture. As well as that, stitching digital photography adds density and form.

Anna Granberg

For Anna, textiles are the ultimate way of utilizing materials as a medium for her expressive art. “Our memories of how textiles have affected our bodies can serve as the bridge to our current feelings.”

Jackie Langfeld

Jackie’s current work has evolved naturally from her Paper Warrier series and continues to focus on a fragile and transient world.

Julieanne Long

Julieanne’s work reflects her fascination with the natural world around her, and a particular aspect of her work is the use of recycled and found materials.

Julia Triston

Julia’s quirky textile artwork using recycled underwear has evolved ininininto this recently made and worn ‘Pink Nation Bra-Ra Dress,’ which she wore on the Fourth Plinth in London’s Trafalgar Square. Breakthrough Breast Cancer received money from every bra in this dress.
