Description

The exhibition was created by members of the East Anglian Stitch Textiles group. Each of the thirteen artists has explored the 1914/18 conflict and undertaken extensive research of their chosen theme. These include a wide range of topics and reflections from life on the Western Front: the role of women, the effects on landscape and nature, allied armies mapping , armaments and the works of writers and artists in 1920’s.

You will see that this exhibition in commemoration of WW1 takes us from the language of flowers, through to an Anzac connection. The use of embroidered bags for personal possessions and their health notes, to war poetry, broken pottery as an allegory for broken lives, to the inclusion of an old First Aid Box and cutlery interwoven with tablecloths, and even how a modern family can trace their ancestory back to both sides of the war but today are joined through love.
