Our first weekend at the Langstone Quays since lockdown began on Friday with 16 of the students arriving a day early to take advantage of this lovely venue and its facilities. We all enjoyed the evening having a socially distanced dinner together, followed by a lovely breakfast the next morning. The remaining 8 arrived bright and early Saturday morning for two days of classes with Sarah Soward teaching 3 different quilts using Fat Quarters, and Val with her class of ladies wanting to start a new project, finish a new one and some taking advantage of the space to layer a finished quilt top.
For many this was their first venture away from home since lockdown so there was some apprehension about managing under new guidelines, but these were soon quelled when they realised what had been put in place by the venue. A few even managed to dip in and out of the class for a pedicure or a swim, with some skipping breakfast to enjoy a walk down to the beach.
Each of the ladies had their own socially distanced workstation and were able to create some fabulous work. This is not to say they did not manage to socialise over coffee, lunch and dinner albeit at the required distance.
As always, we were well looked after by the staff at the Langstone Quays and eating far too much lovely food.
By the end of the weekend everyone was pleased they had decided to join us during these difficult times, with many rebooking for this ever popular weekend next October when, fingers crossed, the 2020 restrictions will be a thing of the past.
Our Guild Competition winner told us ” I enjoyed the weekend very much indeed. I certainly hope to come again in the future and will be in touch once I have dates sorted out. Again, many thanks” and another of our attendees said: “It was a great weekend. I over did the sewing but have 2 nearly finished quilts to show for it & feel inspired & energised.”
Why not come and join us and escape for the weekend at one of our upcoming retreats – you’ll find full details here.
