Folded Star Cushion

Valerie originally showed this pattern as a folded potholder workshop but Joy turned it into a delightful cushion that co-ordinates beautifully with her quilt.     I finally finished the pillow that I wanted to make to match the quilt I had done last year.  I ended up putting the design on like an applique after i got it done because my pillow is square not round or hexagon.

Look what the kids made

Under the watchful eye of Vicky Munday a group of 8-11 year olds (boys and girls) from the Pluto class at St.John Evangelist School,Islington, meet on a Monday evening (after school) for a hour - using donated fabrics, threads and other bits and bobs they made this pile of treasures.     Young sewing addicts I would say!!!   (P.S.

Momentum charity quilt day

A bunch of generous ladies joined Valerie to make quilts for this very worthwhile (local) charity that supports children with life threatening illnesses and their families. We were also joined by Fabian (who is currently undergoing treatment) and his mum and sister and here is Fabian snuggling under the quilt that he made.       To learn more about Momentum click here and Momentum was awarded with the Kingston Business Excellence Award for 'Commitment to the Community'.

Beach Hut Prize Winner

Here is the lovely quilt as made by Carole, who was the lucky winner;   and here is what she had to say: It was great to have all the instructions written out for me in a logical order.  I made plenty of mistakes but what a great learning experience it was. Thank you once again Of course we can't see the mistakes - so well done Carole, it looks lovely.

A great idea for recycling that old blazer (that’s not worn out!)

Taking inspiration from one of our videos Jo made this great cushion for her son on which she managed to use the pockets to embellish the front: and she also took the opportunity to use the labels from the blazer, which included not only Ben's name but also 'Made in England' - isn't that cute!!!!   If you like this idea - have you seen our video: Easy Closure for a Cushion with Valerie Nesbitt

Quilt for charity from Mary

I surprised myself and finished a quilt for the charity a few days ago.  I have even photoed it! Picture attached.  I used a lovely piece of liberty cotton (it feels like silk!) and the remainder was pieces that I had in the house.  As a dressmaker I find it hard to get my head around the concept of cutting up perfectly good cloth into little pieces and then sewing it back together.

THings Irene has enjoyed on the website

Just to say I have nearly completed another of Val's scrap quilts - the red and white one.  I am planning another one using all my scraps.  They are easy to make and I can use up the vast amount of small fabric pieces I have. I have also made Helen Deighan's pot - a  little one to practice! Also an earlier workshop on box making that Jenny demonstrated and I have made lots of these for gifts.
