Description

The Grandmothers Fan block is really just a quarter of the Dresden Plate, but easier to make and sits really flat in the corner of your square.

This version has a turned pointed top and the smaller version was made from 5″ squares and the template by the E-Z company. A selection of squares are often available in your local quilt shop, but you could use up your scraps and the smaller template will fit onto a 2 1/2″ jelly roll strip. You still need to applique the petals onto a background fabric, and it also needs a handle which can be fused into place.

As the top of each petal is already turned it makes simple work of the applique, which can be done by hand or by machine.

Do take a look at the Invisible Machine Applique workshop with Dawn Cameron-Dick.
