Description

Counted embroidery is a great way for lovers of cross stitch to move into embroidery. Kate talks us through how to create one of the stitches she particularly liked from patterns used in Blackwork.

Kate suggests using a 28 count fabric, as this is easy to see and count. A higher number means the pattern would be smaller, and a higher count number means the pattern would be bigger.

Kate talks how to start work, including why it is best to work with a hoop. She has an amazing tip on what to do with the starting knot. Also she talks you through the stranded threads she likes to use, which on this occasion includes one that is sparkly. And she suggests you might like to keep an eye on the tension between the two very different threads.

Kate also has a lovely rainbow kit available on our website.
