Helen Butcher loves modern improv blocks and this is another stunning example which she has made up into a bag and as the blocks are trimmed to size at the end, this would be a super idea for a group quilt.
This is another simple, modern cut and slash design from Helen, which uses squares as a starting off point. These can be any size you like. Pre-cut layer cakes would work of course, although Helen has chosen to work with Longshotts from Oakshott Fabrics.
You get to make three blocks at the same time, so there is a chance to vary the fabrics in each block and take care to keep yourself safe while turning and cutting, and then you get to do a quick shuffle!
This is a block that requires you to trim as you go, so don’t worry about the seam allowance, and when all the blocks are made you should trim them up to a standard size. This way they will fit together perfectly – so another great idea for a group quilt.
