Originally a fashion designer Karen still enjoys turning her talents to create fashion and works of art.
Karen loves to create lace, and pictures from thread using her trusted ‘Irish’ machine and in this delighful video we get to enjoy a wide variety of skirts that formed an exhibition. Karen also loves to scavenge at carboot sales and has made some truely amazing finds such as bundles of braids; and old bra straps at a Paris Flea Market as well as plain tablecloths onto which she creates thread pictures and cutwork.

Karen Nicol is an embroidery and mixed media textile artist working in gallery, fashion and interiors with a London based design and production studio established for over twenty-five years. She specialises in Irish, Cornelly, Multihead, beading and hand embroidery. She likes to challenge the boundaries of embroidery and this is very evident in her latest book entitled:
