Between the Lines

That month we visited a really interesting exhibition by East Anglian Stitch Textiles or EAST, called “Between the Lines”. There each textile artist had reflected on the events of World War One and created a textile piece of work. So, it had resulted in an exhibition that was varied, thought provoked and commemorative. You can find more information about in video by clicking here.

Helen Butcher and Helen Howe

As the nights began to draw in we kicked off this month by meeting two brand-new contributors, two Helens – Helen Butcher and Helen Howe. This video is available on our website, just click here. At that time they were both members of the Modern Quilt section of the Quilters Guild. They talked about their inspiration and patchwork experience, and remembered fondly their friend and colleague Kate Percival. Later in the month Helen Butcher shareed with us a delightful workshop was featuring some very modern cats. This workshop you can find on our website too, just click here.

How to sew an accurate ¼ inch seam

Our Throwback-Thursday for October was a super tip from Valerie on how to sew an accurate ¼ inch seam. So, it’s not what you sew that’s important what you achieve. This tip is available by clicking here.

First Sampler Quilt

If you enjoyed the First Sampler Quilt series, we made two blocks that month. You can find workshop about second block with some variations on our website, just click here. This block used squares. The Friendship Star block was third block, which was also based on the nine-patch grid, but used the half-square triangle unit. You can find this workshop by clicking here.

Brand-new workshop and useful tip from Valerie

Also that month, Valerie brought us a brand-new workshop, where she used a jelly roll and colour to create visually woven quilt. This video is available by clicking here. She was inspired by Carolyn Forster’s woven workshop that we have on the site too. Also she showed us how to create the blocks and sashing required for Lynne Goldsworthy’s quilt called Dreams. You can find this workshop on our website, just click here. This quilt was foundation pieced and used fabrics from Makower.

And finally in October Valerie shared a very useful video tip. That tip will help you to use flat-headed pins with paper templates and your rotary ruler and stay safe. You can find this video by clicking here.
