Susan is talented textile lady who living in Wivenhoe and hand stitching is the first love for her.
Description
Bearing in mind that Susan loves to hand sew, we get to look through her book of ‘teaching samples’. It includes crewel work, laid work, and the interesting use of varigated threads.
She talks about the feather stitch and buttonhole from the W.I. and how we can transform the traditional stitches to give them a more modern look.
She also likes to investigate stitches from various regions of the world, and we get to see ones from Brittany and Italy.
Moreover, she enjoys playing with an image through ‘photoshop’ and uses that as her inspiration for projects.
Not all her work is embroidery, though, as she has a more traditional piece of patchwork as a workinprogress with half-square triangles.
In addition, you can see more of Susan’s work in the video of the Threads exhibition.
If you would like to get in touch with her about attending any of her classes then she can be contacted at susan.rhodes@gmail.com.
