9 Patch and variations – Block 2 of Your First Sampler Quilt (workshop notes)

Rotary cutting and accurate piecing are the basics for this block.

Pattern Type

Description

The second block in our series

In this our second block of the series you will learn:

  • how to rotary cut strips
  • how to cut squares quickly, accurately and safely
  • that a rotary cutter is a brilliant tool but sharp so needs to be treated with respect.

We also cover strip piecing to make the alternative 4-patch segments and how to sew the 4-patches together accurately.

2 design options

There are two design options – but you could vary it yet again and have a plain square in the centre. So many options!

AND if you are thinking of making the standard 9-patch into a quilt by repeating the blocks you should consider watching  the strip-piecing tutorial (‘basics’ in the quick links).
