Description
This is Row 8 of Jennie’s story quilt and in it she shows how to make the snail’s trail block – but there are other options so keep watching!
We’ve called this row 8 but in fact it does form part of row 7 with the cosy cottages; and as usual with Jennie we get lots of options as well as design ideas (and next week we will be giving you even more design ideas for the snails trail block).
Simple to construct with a four patch centre, Jennie guides you through and points out why the grain of the triangles matter – we need to avoid having the bias edges on the outside of the block! and don’t panic when Jennie gets to talk about 1/8th’s as these are clearly marked on your rotary ruler.
And again if you are using the rotary cutting templates, you get great accuracy.
The twist of the design is created simply by the placement of the colour strips – but then again you might not care!
As an alternative to using this block in the row, Jennie suggests making the corners in the cabin block, and/or the pineapples from Karin Hellaby.
All the options would make great quilts in their own right – so do think about that too.
