Description

Sashiko stitching is a very traditional stitch and is a form of Japanese quilting; traditional made with Indigo (dark blue) fabric and white Sashiko thread, which is approx the same thickness as a Perle 8 non-standed thread.

Modern quilters have chosen to use other colours, and Lynette shows us a series of projects that will inspire, as well as showing you how to create the stitch; essentially a very simple running stitch, but as always, a few helpful tips will make the design look better.

The designs and motifs were traditionally used on kimonos, banners in battle and as a decorative way of repairing clothing.

If you have been inspired by this workshop, and want to get sewing straight away, we have a couple of kits available from Lynette, which you can find in our website.
