Description

It was a pleasure to go behind the scenes of the Royal School of Needlework studios, where a dedicated team works on commissions as varied as repairing antique heirlooms and christening gowns to creating new artifacts.   We had the privilege of witnessing work on the new regimental altarpiece for the newly formed Royal Anglian Regiment. It had its Service of Dedication on 1st November at the regiment’s chapel in Warley, Essex. See examples of the work with English Heritage to help create their new ‘immersive experience’ in the Great Tower at Dover Castle. The idea was to show visitors what the castle would have looked like when Henry II, 1184, was there. Also, the pieces are certainly both sumptuous and massive.

The tour gives an idea of the varied work carried out to an incredibly high standard in the Studios.

For more information about how the Royal School of Needlework may be able to look after your treasured family textiles and create works of embroidered art for your next-generation contact.

And remember that they took part in creating the perfect wedding gown for the Duchess of Cambridge.
