Description
This beautiful applique design from Kate Findlay makes a stunning textile picture.
This kit makes a finished piece 65cm x 88cm.
The kit contains –
Template sheet 60cm x 83cm, and Panel of 14 birds printed on cotton poplin fabric, and instructions.
You will still need to provide:
Thin wadding 70cm x 95cm; Backing fabric 70cm x 95cm; paperbacked fusible web, 2m x 30cm and small amounts of fabrics for the design
Background (sky) 70cm x 80cm
Ground 70cm x 25cm
Tree trunk 60cm x 80cm (or less depending on how you cut it!)
Leaves 60cm x 60cm (two or three different colours is good for the leaves)
This kit uses a technique called raw edge applique. Bond the birds fabric with fusible web and then cut them out and arrange them onto the tree creatively using the image for guidance, and then settle down to some free motion stitching using the threads of your choice to complete the piece.
Ideally you would have some experience of free motion stitching on your sewing machine to enable you to complete this project, although it would be possible to finish this in other ways, perhaps with hand embroidery if preferred. You will need an embroidery foot (often a ring or horseshoe shape) and you will need to be able to drop the feed dogs on your machine. This kit is not designed for children.
