Description
Valerie interviews Claire Campion amongst her wonderful quilt and cushion designs.
Her designs use half square triangles, roman strips, and repeated patterns to produce fresh looking blocks. The secondary patterns created from the combined blocks show the beauty of the patterns. Quilting all over her designs adds texture and dimension to the patterns.
The naming quilts can be hard but Claire uses the patterns of the quilt to inspire names such as:
- “Sweet Wonder” named for the rose the pattern represents
- “Silene”, from the Latin for Campion, reminds her of blossom flowers
- “Star Link” uses negative space to help the pattern pop
- “Retro Metro” where the use of roman strips and half square triangles reflect its name
- “Collider” inspired by an optical illusion pattern which can be effective in both dark and light versions.
Find out more about Collider in Claire’s upcoming workshop.
