This quilt was designed by Lynne Goldsworthy using the Katie Jane fabric range from Makower.
Description
The Katie Jane range of fabrics are a collection in pretty shades of pink, turquoise and reds with some large florals and co-ordinating small ditzy prints.
Valerie guides you through how to create this delightful two-block quilt. The two elements are the Dresden Plate applique block, and it’s circular centre, plus the scrappy strip pieced chain block.
The downloaded pattern includes the templates, so do make sure they come up the correct size!
Dresden Plate is a particular favourite of Valerie’s and she shares with you how to use the paper template, plus the rotary cutter and keep yourself safe. The magic of how to turn the tumbler shape into the pointed petal of the plate and then some tips on how to create a neat edge to that plate. And she also has a nifty way of creating the centre circle.
In addition, Valerie has some tips on how to make sure that when you sub-cut your strip pieces, they stay accurate. Moreover, you get some food for thought on the colour options.
You will see that Lynne Goldsworthy has chosen to topstitch the plate and it’s centre circle onto the background fabric, rather than using a blanket stitch, which is very effective, as is the overall crosshatch quilting, again simple but effective.
