Beautiful Birds with Gail Lawther
Gail is known for designing and stitching quilts for books and patterns, as well as teaching workshops across the UK and further afield. Treat yourself to a weekend doing the craft you love along with like-minded people – and try out some new techniques into the bargain.
Birds provide the soundtrack to our lives, and all the projects that Gail is offering on this retreat are inspired by our feathered friends: you’ll find garden birds and seabirds, pheasants and flamingos, doves and chickens, herons and puffins – and loads more besides.
Whether you’re a complete beginner to patchwork or an accomplished stitcher, this is an excellent weekend for extending your skills and learning new ones. There’s a wide variety of different techniques on offer for creating the projects, including – of course– Gail’s ‘signature’ Stained Glass Patchwork.
Layer, Solder and Stitch with Kathleen Laurel Sage
Kathleen is known for wielding her soldering iron to embellish; remove and seal areas of her machine embroidered and layered organza designs, to make a strong delicate and versatile fabric.
Kathleen will guide you through the techniques needed to create your own layered, soldered and stitched project, including some simple steps to design your own masterpiece. She will help you decide on a design, either drawn by you or from a selection of patterns and kits. If you have never used a soldering iron before, don’t worry you’ll soon be totally hooked with your head brimming full of fantastic creative ideas.
The weekend will be a good solid starting point for a 3 dimensional or larger project or you may wish to explore the technique in a geometric manner or even make several smaller pieces in the form of unique jewellery or small panels.
