Friday 20th April saw us spend the day with Sylvia Critcher and wander round the Hope Quilters Exhibition in Otford Kent; what a wonderful variety of quilts on display – everything from complete beginners to those with more advanced skills but all very enjoyable and so full of colour. Some really great scrap ideas that Sylvia has taught and as you would expect, lots of wonderful hand quilting examples on display. They were raising funds for Prostrate Cancer research as well as Hearing Dogs and Guide Dogs for the Blind and I’m sure they did well as there were lots of people there.
Tuesday 24th April saw us at Clandon Park, the National Trust House just outside Guildford, at the Guildford Quilters Exhibition. Another brilliant display of quilts and again everything from beginners to those who win awards at competitions. Gigi Langlois-Pearson showed us round and we have some stunning work on film to share with you. They too are raising money for their chosen charities with 3 raffle quilts: Surrey Ambulance and The Grange .
Both groups are great examples of local groups enjoying the wonders of quilting; Sylvia has several groups that she teaches on a weekly basis and the Guildford Quilters are a group of ladies who meet socially to share their skills but as well as lots of chat, there is obviously lots of sewing going on too – just you wait and see as we will be sharing it all with you soon.
