Wonky Stars With Helen Howes
This is a delightful modern improv spikey star, which will work well for beginners and accomplished sewers alike. The block is made simply from 10" squares – so a layer cake is perfect – you make an asymetrical 9 patch and then add the spikes. The seam allowance on this improv quilt doesn’t really matter – so great for beginners – and then you get to square-up the block at the end, so perfect for group quilts.
In this workshop Helen has used wonderful Oakshott fabrics, but fabrics with a right and wrong side might be less confusing.
The pattern is available for free, but subscribed members can download extra notes as well. Watch Now+

Piping a Cushion the Jennie Rayment way
Do you have a cushion that needs that final touch for a Christmas gift.? Well, adding piping to a cushion just gives it that professional finish but the idea of ‘bias’ binding puts many of us off the whole idea; well no longer because as usual Jennie has a clever way of putting piping (which doesn’t have to be bias) onto a cushion. Workshop notes are available for Paid Subscribers Watch Now+
Your First Sampler Quilt
Last month there were 2 more blocks for you to tackle – Shoo Fly and Monkey Wrench and Prairie Queen and Jacobs Ladder. How are you getting along? Are you feeling inspired to use some of these blocks in a different context?
The Jacobs Ladder block is a great block for using as a centre for a medallion quilt – you make just 4 and then set the pattern in a diamond format. It would also be quite beautiful if you increased the size of each of the units to 5" finished to make each block 15" instead of 12". Watch Now+
