Wildflowers with Janet ClareNew this Friday, Janet shows you her Wildflowers quilt from her book of the same name. Janet has designed this little quilt which combines Irish chain patchwork (which can easily be strip pieced) and her love of our native wildflowers, which are created in fused applique which simply means tracing, ironing, cutting out, and ironing again! The 12 flower blocks have additional embroidery for their names which again you can trace off onto trace-and-tear. Janet hopes you will enjoy making this quilt just one flower at a time. Watch Now+ Book of the MonthAnd we have Janet’s book, Wildflowers, as our Book of the Month for April. It is a truly stunning pattern book, with 12 intricately detailed wildflower blocks appliquéd into a little quilt to enjoy all year round. The full size appliqué templates are very versatile and can also be used for embroidery and paper craft. The book is full to the brim of beautiful photographs, and includes inspirational sketchbook pages with original Janet Clare drawings and paintings of the flowers. With lots of close up photography of each wildflower appliqué block showing Janets fabric Twisted Settings with Valerie NesbittNew today, a simple but effective technique that you will use again and again. Valerie shows you how to add movement to your quilt. Twisted setting is a brilliant way of not only adding movement to your quilt but also for making sure all the blocks are an identical size! She also uses the partial seam technique which adds just more twist to the design. Watch Now+ Windmills with Jennie RaymentThis traditional windmill star block also uses the partial seam technique to give it that twisted look but otherwise it has very traditional half square and quarter-square triangles, plus rectangles and a square so how difficult can it be! Jennie guides you through the cutting sequence and you get to learn about the warp and weft of the fabrics which we use to our advantage in those triangles, so as to avoid wobbly bias edges on the outside of the block. Workshop notes are available for paid subscribers Watch Now+ Bead Quilting with Paula DoyleIf you’d like to add a different finish to your quilts then award winning quilter, Paula Doyle shows us how she adds sparkle and dimension to her otherwise plain borders with beading.
