Dresden Plate Patchwork with Sallieann Harrison

This fabulous quilt is made up of dresden plate patchwork plus some stunning borders. Sallieann takes us through the steps to make the 12 petals with the speedy help of the sewing machine. Her method means that the tips of the plates are already turned and therefore ready for the applique step. She also shows us how to make the centre sunny circle. There is a great tip on how to get this accurate.  Finally she shows you her current favourite applique stitch on her sewing machine. Sallieann also tells us about her quilting inspiration which was the backing fabric!  Watch

Making Paper and Fabric Beads with Fran Rose

Fran is a passionate beader. In this little workshop Fran shares with us how to make fabric and paper beads. She suggests you can use fabric from your major project so that the beads co-ordinate. They could then be added to finish off a bag maybe as a zip pull, or other textile project – so not just jewellery. Bags of fun in a bubble

We love hearing your stories that you share. Viv contacted us recently to say what a lovely quick simple bag of Jennie Rayment’s video was and so easy to create a ‘boxed’ bottom. It was extremely timely as she was looking after her granddaughter, Florence, who is nearly 5 and in their bubble.

Viv says “Florence loves sewing and I’m so keen to capture this enthusiasm. I had some fabric crayons so armed with plain calico she drew pictures which I then ironed fast, and then we made into a shopping bag for her mum. I’m not sure why the submarine is in the drawing but who knows what goes on in a four year olds mind!!. Her
