New Videos Every FridayMeet Sue RhodesValerie chats to Sue who had just returned from this year’s Houston quilt show. She tells us about the vast array of competition quilts and workshops there. She also discusses some of her projects that she will share with us in upcoming workshops, including Thermofax screen printing later this month. Sue uses this as a base for her projects as she just loves to embellish them after this. Watch Now+ Make a Cupcake Pincushion with Mandy ShawEveryone loves a cupcake – these ones have no calories! Mandy demonstrates how to create a fabulous, cupcake pincushion which is fun and easy to make. She has some great tips including how to stuff them so they sit beautifully on your table and how to eliminate creases from where you don’t want them for a smooth finish. Watch Now+ Yo-Yo Santa with Valerie NesbittThis is a really quick project that can become addictive – increase or reduce the size and make LOTS! Yo-Yo Santa allows you to use up scraps of wadding and fabric to create a fun, seasonal wall-hanging. Reduce the size and he can become a tree decoration; and you can use your imagination for embellishments. Workshop notes and template are available for Paid Subscribers. Watch Now+ Book of the MonthOur Book of the Month for December is the fun “NUDINITS: Bare-bottomed fun from the village of Woolly Bush.” Bursting with British eccentricity, double entendres and the odd bare bottom, this enchanting book will appeal to humour-lovers and knitting fans alike . This is not just a humour book. It also includes 20 exclusive Places going fast – Book now!Come and join us at our Quilting retreat over the Leap Weekend at the end of February and spend a day each working with Jennie and Valerie. Valerie will show you what to do with feature fabrics that you’re too scared to cut into and you’ll make a Postcard Quilt top. Then the other day you’ll be working with Jennie Rayment and some very clever patchwork shapes. Like all simple ideas this is a great one – yet another of Jennie’s original natty notions. You’ll make a traditional patchwork block then change the pattern by simply removing part of the design and repositioning! Booking closes 1st February 2020 More Info+ Product of the MonthOur Product of the Month for December is this gorgeous Enchanted Forest Cushion Kit by Martin Storey This beautiful cushion kit comes complete with yarn and a free Extreme Knitting from Valerie NesbittThis is a bit of fun and a great use of small strips of fabric perhaps too small to sew into a project. In this little workshop Valerie uses up thin strips to create a knitted rug; If you know how to crochet then this is also an option. The trick is how to join the strips when they are so thin, and Valerie has a couple of suggestions If cotton fabrics are used the finished project is quite safe and obviously easy to wash, although it can be a little heavy. Watch Now+ Wonky Nine Patch with Jennie RaymentIn this workshop Jennie shows us how to use a paper pattern – not something quilters are used to using (!) – and has some great tips on how to make the flimsy paper robust so that you can get lots of use out of it. This wonky pattern is perfect for using up those odd bits of fabric in your cupboard, or that lonely layer cake – and what a great idea for Christmas too. And if you are a beginner there is no need to worry about seam allowance either – everything can be trimmed up at the end! Watch Now+ New patterns from Krista HenneburyKrista Hennebury is a Canadian who describes herself as a quilting-obsessed former geologist raising two kids and a mini-dachshund with her husband in their little blue cottage on a hill. And even better, she can see the ocean, mountains, trees & sky from her window. She also designs some amazing patterns, as you can see from this picture. Ranging from traditional to modern, there are quilts, pillows, suggestions for table runners , wall hangings and a tote bag. Some of the patterns use an improv piecing technique that Krista has developed herself called ‘Improv Under the Influence” and is so named because modern results are achieved with traditional chain-piecing, rotary equipment and ¼” seam allowance.
